What is Dragon Trail’s Trip Builder Pro?

Dragon Trail’s Trip Builder Pro is an AI itinerary building tool that pulls content from a DMO’s database to provide travel agents with detailed, personalized travel itineraries for their clients within minutes. The itineraries are fully editable and include free-to-use photos for each point of interest (POI), contact details, geo-coordinates, and a map. Once generated and confirmed, the itineraries can be shared through a QR code or downloaded as PDFs.

When was it launched?

The platform was created in the spring of 2025. We first demoed the platform to the Chinese travel trade during ITB China in May 2025.

Who is the Trip Builder Pro aimed at?

The Trip Builder Pro has been created specifically for use by the travel trade, and as a B2B tool for destination tourism boards. The “Pro” in the name signifies that this tool is intended exclusively for travel trade professionals and not as an itinerary builder for consumers.

What advantages does this tool offer to its users?

For tourism boards, the Trip Builder Pro gives new life to your extensive databases of POI information, pre-built itineraries, and other content created for use by the travel trade – which may be underutilized at present. It’s a way to empower travel trade partners to sell your destination to an unlimited range of clients, and support your local tourism service providers by putting them on Chinese travelers’ itineraries and matching them up with best-fit travelers.

For travel agents, the Trip Builder Pro addresses a very pressing pain point in the post-pandemic Chinese travel market. Personalization is one of the biggest trends in Chinese tourism now, with travelers increasingly opting to travel as FITs or in customized groups, and they’re seeking trips that fulfil very specific needs and interests. A one-size-fits-all approach is not enough to capture the attention and wallets of Chinese travelers anymore. This means that Chinese travel advisors are spending huge amounts of time and energy putting together personalized itineraries and recommendations for their clients, with low conversion rates. The Trip Builder Pro allows them to generate itineraries based on very personalized requests in minutes, and they can also trust that the information in the itinerary is totally up to date, accurate, and comprehensive.

Which LLMs does the Trip Builder Pro use, and how does it work?

The Trip Builder Pro uses an agentic AI workflow that calls on two of China’s top LLMs – DeepSeek and Alibaba’s Qwen. It also uses retrieval augmented generation (RAG) to ensure that its responses are based on official tourism board data.

In the first step, the travel agent submits a query for an itinerary, including information about the trip time and duration, the travel group, and any other details and requests from their client.

We then call on DeepSeek, which does a deep thinking – this is visible to travel advisors so they can follow the AI’s thinking process and see how it builds the itinerary. Once DeepSeek finishes its thinking, it will provide an itinerary as a text response.

We then call on the next LLM in our workflow to analyze that data and generate a structured itinerary, including the geocode of all the POIs that are included in the itinerary, as well as a map. Travel advisors can click on each POI in the itinerary for a popup window with the official URL and copyright image.

At this stage, the itinerary is totally editable, so travel agents can add, delete, and modify the POIs for every day of the trip. After making the modification, they can go back to the AI and ask it to again optimize the itinerary based on their changes.

Once the travel agent is happy with the edited and optimized itinerary, they can share it with their client using a QR code or sending a PDF with a cover page.

What’s different about the Trip Builder Pro, compared to simply asking DeepSeek or another LLM to build a travel itinerary?

• Directly asking an AI chatbot like DeepSeek to generate an itinerary runs the risk of including information that is inaccurate or out of date. It also will not include images of all POIs, and any requested images will not necessarily come with permissions for commercial use. The Trip Builder Pro uses RAG (retrieval augmented generation) to limit the dataset to the tourism board’s POI database. The tool can be linked up to any data available through Dragon Trail’s B2B digital platforms, including our China Travel Academy e-learning courses, past or present online roadshows, and Travel Trade Hubs. For the travel agents, this ensures that the information in the itinerary is totally accurate and hallucination-free, and that they have copyright photos for each POI.

• An itinerary generated by DeepSeek will just be a block of text. The next stage in the Trip Builder Pro workflow adds links, images, and geocodes to the POIs, and creates a structured itinerary based on the DeepSeek reply. Our platform includes an editing tool where travel advisors can modify the POIs and itinerary text however they like. And the Trip Builder Pro includes a feature to generate a QR code for the itinerary or to download it as a PDF.

How much does it cost?

Pricing varies depending on the size of the client’s desired B2B outreach network and is confirmed on a case-by-case basis with Dragon Trail. We are able to offer tiered pricing based on the number of travel agents and agencies licensed to use the Trip Builder Pro tool, and this number is something the client can determine based on their own needs and network size.
