Type of Event: Webinar
Please join us for a briefing with Q&A on China’s dynamically evolving online travel bookings landscape in the August edition of our monthly webinar series.
Online bookings are growing three times faster than offline sales in China, and will account for 50% of all bookings by 2020. China’s online travel landscape is dominated by Ctrip, the country’s largest online travel agency. Its recent acquisition of meta-search engines Qunar and Skyscanner has put a temporary end to the industry’s cut-throat competition and revealed the company’s global ambitions.
The lucrative outbound travel market has spurred the rise of new industry players: marketplace platform Fliggy (Alibaba owned), meta-search engine iGola and “Groupon”-like site Meituan (Tencent owned) which in 2015 sold the second largest number of hotel rooms. Finally, China’s internet giants’ intense competition (Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent referred as BATs) is already spilling over to travel, an industry where all players have considerable interests.
Together with booking platforms, travel reviews and content sites Qyer, Mafengwo, Dianping and Breadtrip are some of the most popular sources of information for Chinese independent travellers. Such platforms not only provide great insights about what consumers think about a destination, attraction, or travel itinerary, they also provide valuable distribution and advertising opportunities.
Roy Graff, Managing Director EMEA, Dragon Trail Interactive and Michaela Mentasti, Marketing Director, Dragon Trail Interactive will join hands to share their insights on:
China’s online travel landscape – major players and latest developments
Online booking – user profile and behaviour
China’s online travel review sites – how do they differ from TripAdvisor?
Which platforms should you be on and other considerations
